    violence in the New Testament

The "Christian Terrorists" thread was closed due to mudslinging exactly one minute before I could respond to Snakebit's last post. It was getting a bit too long/disorganized in any case! Had a response ready before the door was slammed shut.

Anyway, he claimed that the NT doesn't command anybody to go around committing acts of violence in the name of God, a common christian retort, and I beg to differ.

Acts *3 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

Who does the destroying if not Jesus' followers? They're destroyed "from among the people," this doesn't imply after death in hellfire.

Mark 7:9-10: Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient children as required by Old Testament law. (See Ex 21:15, Lev 20:9, Dt 21:18-21)

Romans 1:31-32: Gays and their supporters (those "that have pleasure in them") are "worthy of death" along with gossips, boasters, and disobedient children.

Peter 3:23 claims that Dt 18:18-19 refers to Jesus, saying that those who refuse to follow him (all non-Christians) must be killed.

There are many more examples. The NT uses the passive voice most of the time, but the meaning is clear: Jesus condones killing and has no problem with the OT.

EDIT: Oh for crying out loud! *Acts three: twenty three. Silly emoticons....

We used to have a cat that would do the same thing. She enjoyed channeling her inner dog.

My dog did that one time, on the cream-colored rug of our then-new home.

She left a long skid mark.

In front of some neighbors we'd just met.

Don't forget that there is also cruelty to animals in the old testament:
"Moses tied his @ss to a tree, and walked for 6 days.."

Not to mention blatant advertizing for certain car manufacturers:
"The apostles came together in an Accord..."
"God, in his Fury, drove Adam and eve from the garden..."

I propose a new "religion" sub-forum, so the believers can not be questioned in the lounge and can continue on in their confusion.

I think "politics & religion" would be a good name for the sub. But the two are clearly entwined to begin with, so it's redundant.

And where on earth are these biblical LEGO scenes from? Very cute.
