    While you were sleeping

Nazis invaded the University of Virginia!

White nationalist rally at University of Virginia - BBC News

Demonstrators held lit torches - which some observers described as a reference to the Ku Klux Klan - and chanted "blood and soil" and "one people, one nation, end immigration", local media reported.
Hmm...where have I heard that before?

    Oh right:

The actual German National Socialist party that our GI's invaded Europe to overthrow in the 1940's.

Since Jefferson owned hundreds of slaves in his lifetime shouldn't his statue be removed as well? At any rate it would seem to be a strange rallying point for the counter strugglers.

Thomas Jefferson was the founder of UVA, and the author of the Declaration of Independence. The White Nationalist group was protesting the removal of a statue of Jefferson Davis, not only the leader of a traitorous confederacy, but the president of a country that lost.

Why is the alt-right so stuck on ideologies that we've literally gone to war over? They're chanting catch phrases from Germany's National Socialist party to protest the removal of a statue of a national traitor.

And stature of Gen. Robert E. Lee.

The statutes were erected 70 years after the Civil war as a message to "Uppity" blacks. They had zero to do with this babble about honoring heritage

After the war the South was an occupied territory and there was no money to build those statues. The occupying army probably wouldn't have allowed it anyway.

    That is a lie.

A timeline of Confederate sites shows two notable spikes. One comes around the turn of the 20th century, just after Plessy v. Ferguson, and just as many Southern states were establishing repressive race laws. The second runs from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s—the peak of the civil-rights movement. The erection of Confederate monuments has been a way to perform cultural resistance to black equality.

Y'all should know that a lot of those statues were paid for by private donations from the surviving ex-Confederates' pockets.

American Nazi Party chairman: Trump is a 'real opportunity' - NY Daily News

The chairman of the American Nazi Party said he loves the idea of Donald Trump as president, since it would be a “real opportunity” for fellow haters to boost their movement.

“If Trump does win, it’s going to be a real opportunity for people like white nationalists,

Never going to live that down.

The debate over that park and statue (Robert Lee, not Jeff Davis in that particular park) has been ongoing for a year or more. There is no more persuasive arguement for its removal than the jack-tards that have shown up in protest of this.

There's more cognitive dissonance than that in that photo.

Think for a second about who and where and when the Christian Gospel was written. Then think about the xenophobic protester holding the sign, exchanging aryan salutes holding Nazi flags next to 1950s stars-and-bars.

Sid note...that cop deserves a raise and a medal for showing up and doing that job.

Charlottesville is a liberal university town in Virginia, one which had over 70% of its voters cast a vote for Hillary Clinton in the last election. The White Supremacists who are gathering for these rallies in Charlottesville are coming from all over the nation to impress their will on this normally quiet college town. Many of these men have shown up with guns, bludgeons, shields and other combat implements to invade C-ville. This is not an acceptable form of protest.

Now one of the white supremacists has accelerated his car into a group of counter protestors. No word on how many serious injuries from this criminal action, but I cannot see how anyone can rationalize support for these yahoos.

Life is short... enjoy the ride.

seems like pre-meditated vehicular assault is considered terrorism when it occurs in other countries...

hope the driver is apprehended quickly and given the harshest possible sentence.

Oops, wrong Confederate. Lee's story is fascinating, especially as it pertains to Arlington National Cemetery, but that's getting off topic.

I was initially drawn to the parallels between this march and actual Nazi propaganda, but as this whole thing has unfolded with the car being driven into the crowd of counterprotesters, I'm incredibly upset. This isn't right.

    edit:
    Trump's response:
Trump, Politicians Condemn Violence at Charlottesville White Nationalist Rally - NBC News
We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred bigotry and violence on many sides
    Bull ****ing ****.
Kim Jong Whatsisname in Korea gets "hellfire and fury that the world has never before seen" or whatever, but an actual terrorist attack, and I'm referring to the car ramming into the crowd here, just gets "condemn[ed] in the strongest possible terms."

just saw a report that the driver of the car is in custody.

good to see that Trump is using the violence and tragic events of today as an excuse to brag about 'employment numbers'...

    what an ass.
