I am reading Fignon's autobio, pretty entertaining stuff. . .

"To overcome Lemond, one of the world's great followers (i.e. wheelsuckers) you had to harass him mercilessly, force him over his limit as quickly as possible. . ."

"The American was definintely stretching the rules by using his celebrated triathalon handlebars, which gave him quite an advantage. I shouldn't have lost two seconds per kilometer to him. But as soon as Guinard began to give me time checks, that was exactly what I was losing. . .After a little while, Guinard stopped telling me anything."

It's funny he said that cause I remember, recently (a year or two), his defense to Lemond statement that if "Fignon had TT bike he would have won". The reporter ask him the same question and LF stated "Lemond has his weapon, I had mine, Viola?"

Fignon should re-watch the 89 world championships.
