Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali 2013

    Name: Coppi Poster.jpg
Views: 152

Taking place in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, the Coppi e Bartali is a neo-classic stage race (first riden in 2001) - and as such Italian riders/teams tend to do a good showing here. Headliners include Ivan Basso and Moreno Moser (Cannondale), Roberto Ferrari and Damiano Cunego (Lampre-Merida), Jonathan Monsalve (Vini Fantini) and Franco Pelizotti (Androni Giocattoli). Both Cunego and Pelizotti are former winners of this race.

    Startlist:

Settimana Internazionale Coppi E Bartali Start List | Cyclingnews.com

    The Stages / Il Percorso:

    Stage: 1a - 20 March : Gatteo , 99.00 km
    Stage: 1b - 20 March : Sant'Angelo - Gatteo Mare TTT, 11.00 km
    Stage: 2 - 21 March : Gatteo - Sogliano al Rubicone, 162.00 km
    Stage: 3 - 22 March : Zola Predosa - Piane di Mocogno, 157.00 km
    Stage: 4 - 23 March : Crevalcore - Crevalcore ITT, 14.00 km
    Stage: 5 - 24 March : Monticelli Terme - Fiorano Modenese, 141.00 km

Hard to pick a winner at this point, but I suspect it will be between the two Cannondale riders mentioned and Franco Pelizotti.

    Stage 1b:

Now on to Stage 1b - An 11km Team Time Trial from Sant'Angelo to Gatteo Mare.

I expect Androni Giocattoli to put in a good showing here in defence of thier leader's jersey, but Cannondale may spoil Savio's party...

    Stage Two

    Gatteo - Sogliano al Rubicone

Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) crossed his own personal Rubicon to come in first and take the leader's jersey in Sogliano al Rubicone. He now has almost a full minute lead on his closest challengers. One of which is his teammate Damiano "The Little Prince" Cunego.

    The GC (Top Ten):

    1) Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) 7:08:55
    2) Miguel Angel Rubiano Chavez (Androni Giocattoli) 0:00:58
    3) Damiano Cunego (Lampre-Merida) 0:01:17
    4) Davide Rebellin (CCC Polsat Polkowice) 0:01:40
    5) Leopold Konig (NetApp-Endura) 0:01:42
    6) Ivan Basso (Cannondale)
    7) Francesco Bongiorno (Bardiani Valvole-CSF Inox) 0:01:46
    8) Riccardo Zoidl (Gourmetfein Simplon) 0:01:52
    9) Sergio Pardilla Bellon (MTN-Qhubeka) 0:02:06
    10) Philip Deignan (UnitedHealthcare) 0:02:12

Could Lampre-Merida be looking at the top two podium places at the end of this year's Coppi?

The next stage on offer is a 157km ride from Zola Predosa to Piane di Mocogno.

    Stages Four and Five

    Stage Four:

During the 14.3km individual time trial in Crevalcore, it was Lampre-Merida's mission to avoid time losses to their nearest rivals on GC.
    Mission accomplished!

So here's your GC (Top Five):
    1) Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) 11:36:06
    2) Damiano Cunego (Lampre-Merida) 0:01:35
    3) Miguel Angel Rubiano Chavez (Androni Giocattoli) 0:01:48
    4) Ivan Basso (Cannondale) 0:01:59
    5) Riccardo Zoidl (Gourmetfein Simplon) 0:02:09

    Settimana Internazionale Coppi E Bartali 2013: Stage 4 Results | Cyclingnews.com

    Stage Five:

Lampre-Merida celebrate a rare one-two podium finish while Giani Savio gets a third step finisher in Rubiano to ease his suffering.

    The Final Podium:
    1) Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) 14:15:12
    2) Damiano Cunego (Lampre-Merida) 0:01:35
    3) Miguel Angel Rubiano Chavez (Androni Giocattoli) 0:01:48

Is this the dawning of Ulissi as one of the top riders out there? Too early to tell, but one can't discount it.
