Best day of racing!
I've watched every stage of most TdFs since the mid 80s. Much of the Giros and Vueltas of the same time period.
Today's TdF Stage 13 is my favorite day of racing ever, in a Grand Tour. It rivals some Rondes and Roubaixs, IMO. Granted, I prefer the Classics to the Grand Tours, so today's stage was up my alley.
I'd love to hear from this (ahem...) august group what their favorite days of racing are, so I can then go find and either purchase or copy them...

Agreed, today was pretty great day. Not sure if it's the favorite day of racing ever, but it certainly one of the more exciting days, especially as far as flat stages go.

It seems like all my favorite days have been erased from the books. Sigh...

My favorite is the Lemond and Hinault fiasco. The stage where Greg could have won and was crying at the top on the helicopter ride down. Bob Roll talks about this in his book. He was on the chopper for some reason and was shocked by how childish Lemond was acting. It was an epic stage to watch. My second choice would be the day Lemond won his first World Championship road race. Epic single day event.
Cyclists really need to learn a little Rule #5.

That was a great stage. It was a frittata to the sunny side up that was the 2009 stage when Armstrong rode with the echelon away from teammate Contador.
Ballan, we have a problem.

the flat / cobbled stage where Hincapie and Ekimov removed half the contenders from any chance @ GC. Spanish climbers like Mayo with eyes on the MJ being removed from any chance a week before the climbing started

This stage reminds me a lot of stage 5 of the amgen this year where the cross winds caused some major splits in the peloton and Jens ended up taking the win. Like that stage, some key riders got caught napping and ended up chasing fruitlessly and losing major time.
Great stage for sure. One of the most exciting so far.

And the next day Andy Hampsten won Alpe d'Huez. The best two days of racing!
