LA received death threats before biking up L'Alpe d'Huez

He's at the top of L'Alpe d'Huez waiting now. He had a police sniper escort pedaling up the mountain.

Bode Miller? Frankie Andreu's wife? The Tour director himself? I'd ride with snipers too.

    Ummm

I think that the death threats in question here may may be of a more recent nature,
    hence the armed escort today.
After all, he just finished 'trashing' the French national soccer team (as host of the ESPY's), which is apparently a sacriledge amongst the French populous.

    Comprehensive reading?

Tuesday's stage ends with a 21-bend climb up L'Alpe d'Huez, a famed ascent where Armstrong decimated the opposition during a tense time trial in 2004. Armstrong had police snipers riding behind in a support car after the Texan received death threats.

He told one joke, not quite 'trashing' IMO.

To all those deeply offended by one freaking joke: 'Lighten up Francis.'

shite, they should have just had a car driving up behind him playing Cheryl Crow lyrics, that would have driven any assassins away.

I don't live in Oklahoma. If I did, I wouldn't be offended by it.

It would be tough for the team of police snipers to follow him on the track, unless it was Bristol.

My comprehensive understanding doesn't quite work all the time. It so sounded like it was for today.. I mean the guy just bashed the French again - I'm sure he'd get death threats if he was to be riding up L'Alpe d'Huez.
