    Polka Dot Jersey

    What happened?

At one time the Polka Dot jersey was something to be admired.

It was tasteful, a jersey to be worn with the team shorts, preferably black.

And now it's an abomination, nothing more than a clown suit.

I sure hope that I'm not the only one who sees it like this.

It does look hilarious. You see a lot of spectators on the mountain climbs sporting the polk a dot look and they are the one acting like clowns.

    Re: Polka Dot Jersey

Jersey=classy, with matching shorts, not so much.
I had this same thought, 'geez that looks silly...'
That whole outfit makes me think of that spotted elephant from the Island of Misfit Toys in 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer'
Why don't the other guys have to wear green or yellow shorts?

I agree.. the shorts are way to much, yes like a clown suit.. And sure doesn't help the 'sissy' image the general population has of bike racers!

Personally I don't mind the matching shorts with the other jerseys. In fact I really like Sagan's green, since it's so close to his team kit. But the polka dots look like kids' PJs. Sissy PJs at that.

Some teams do. I don't much care for that either, but it's just not as glaring as the polka dot shorts.

Call me a retro grouch, but I just miss the days when all the teams were relegated to black shorts.

Why stop there? Why not where a polka dot helmet and gloves and bike?

    Oh wait, too late...

    Re: Polka Dot Jersey

In the scheme of things, I suppose if I, Dave, took the polkadot jersey in the TDF, I would feel much different.

Maybe. But I want to believe you'd have more class. Yes, Dave, we're counting on you to break the abominable polka-dot trend!

they could have gone the extra yard and used white polka dotted bar tape--even done the socks and shoes--so maybe we should be grateful for small miracles?

    y'all have been so chumped.
do you know that yellow first-down-line in the NFL broadcasts?
    It is computer-generated.
The dots are just computer generated. It is no big deal.

Did anyone notice in today's stage that Rolland was not wearing the polka-dot jersey? Since when did wearing these jersey's become optional? What a snub to the competition and by a Frenchman none the less.

He was wearing the pajamas, just hid in the crowd 'cause it was a sprinters stage.

At cyclingnews.com they have a picture of him on the podium receiving todays jersey, and he was wearing his pajama bottoms. He wouldn't have had the bottoms on unless he was wearing the whole kit during todays stage.
He cleaned up some and put on his regular team jersey to be presented with todays polka dots.
