What is a "straight line sprint" event?

At an upcoming junior clinic I'm taking Swuzz Jnr to there will be
    ITT - 1 lap
Handicap & scratch races - multi laps
    Straight line sprints (3-5 riders)

The session is held on an industrial estate rectangular criterium course.

Anyone familar with what 'straight line sprints' involve?
Any scope for tactics or literally a drag race?

Might just need to think about what gear to start in and whether they would change or not.

I would guess it is street sprints like they have said.

They are fun if you are a sprinter. Held start --- 200 meters. I found that starting in a gear that is not too big and getting up to speed while shifting on the fly is the best bet. Unless you already are used to mashing a track gear up to speed quick, your race will be over before it starts if you start out in too big of a gear.

The key is getting a quick start, shifting on the fly effectively, and using good form to sprint the whole way through.

If it's a clinic, just email the organizer and ask... and i'm sure they'll explain "how to" at the event.

These are a lot of fun, good way to improve form for sprinting.

p.s. if this is a "competitive" clinic, such as for a team selection where you want to do well, then get on youtube and look at the track events such as pursuit and kilo starts to see how the riders get going.
