    Barn Find: Schwinn Super Sport

A friend is considering purchasing this "basement find" from a co-worker. Looks like it's a drop bar and some tape away from being a roadie again.

Is it worth a couple hundred or so of my friend's money to grab this thing - or not so much? If it fits him of course. Looks like it's in pretty nice shape.

I have a stash of 26.0 drop bars for him to choose from, so all he's really in for initially is a roll of bar tape and maybe some new cables.

Easily worth $200 or so. That's a late eighties frame with Columbus Tenax tubing and forged dropouts. It also looks like it has hardly been ridden.

Tell your friend to grab it.

yeah, wish I had a better pic showing components, but the darn thing looks spotless, and fairly original other than the wheels/tires and flat bar.

Will a bike of that vintage be 126 or 130 rear spacing?

    126. Closer to 85-86, but well worth it. Enjoy!

Yep; it looks to be an '85. If you check the head badge, there should be four very small, lightly stamped digits. That is the assembly date code. The first three digits are the day (001-366) and the last digit is the last digit of the year (5 would be 1985).

Those rims look bronze to me, and somewhat newish. Probably not the original wheels (Araya 20A Grey anodized w/Shimano 600 Hubs...)?

Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. That will need a closer look. I imagine the drivetrain is otherwise original.

    Thanks guys.

And removing the idiot clips that attach the wheels to the fork... haven't seen those in a while.

$200? Hells yeah. Ebay, the components alone are worth more.
