Please please help me identify my benotto

    Hello all,

I've had this bike for a few years and all i know is that it was bought at some point in the 80s. From the previous owner he said it was pretty high end kit. In my opinion it is a lovely, needs some work but nonetheless a great bike.

I am really frustrated that I can't find out what model it is or even what frame it has. I'm a novice though and maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

I would really appreciate any help- i've posted the pictures of relevant bits.

I think it is unusual in that the it has spiral tubing throughout and havent been able to find any other examples on the internet (yet). There a columbus stickers but they do not state which frame. Also it has SR marked on the frame which i assume is for Super Record?

Sorry for the pictures it was cramped in the hall way.

Nice bike. I would clean that up and take a real careful look there.

That SR may signify "Super Record", indicating that the bike came with Campagnolo Super Record components which in turn would signify the top model. That kind of makes sense to me because I have never seen the crimped tubing like this where they turn at each end; have seen a lot of crimped tunes but straight. A non-typical fork as well.

Benotto, in the 1970s, started moving production to Mexico; possibly the high end bikes continued to be masde in Italy for awhile before all production was moved to Mexico (from Italy).

It looks nice, but it is kinda weird they left gaps in the brazing.

Its a benotto, the fork looks more modern. no crown, than my mid 80's modelo 2000. I would guess a early 90's model 2500??
