    Shimano 600 (RD-6207) rear derailler

I have an old rd-6207 that I'm trying to put on a bike with index-shifting, but not having much luck getting it to work. Is the 6207 rear derailler pre-index? It seems like it's pulling too much cable.

It has to be pre-SIS. I put on a new derailler and everything is good.

Hey, I might remember why that won't work.

This is from memory, but I think indexing rear derailleurs have a little lateral play in the upper pulley, to compensate for slight imprecision in the clicktion. The early 600s didn't have that and won't work with indexing shifters. Maybe.

I think that the amount of cable pull need to move the derailler "x" amout is different on SIS versus non-SIS deraillers. I was trying to shift through seven cogs, and I eventually figured out that I wasn't hearing six clicks along the way, yet the limits were set right. The derailler seemed to be moving more than I wanted.

I'm not sure if there was a set cable pull ratio prior to SIS. There would have been no need for one.
