    What 27 inch tire?

Just got a '70-ish Peugeot with 27 inch wheels, and it needs tires. What's out there today, and is any of it really good?

Plus, what tires should I avoid?

there are lots of good 27" tires. Continental, Michilen, Wolber, Schwalbe, Kenda, Bontrager all make 27" road sets. I was just looking at them at a few online sites for an early 70's peugeot i just got as well. though I'm going to build a 700c wheelset for it because that's what i have. though if I had won 27" rims on ebay, i would've been just as pleased.

do a google search and you'll find lots of options.

Thanks, I have done so now, and still interested in what has worked and what has not.

I really like the Panaracer Pasela and you can even get them with a kevlar belt for puncture resistance.

    Second Panaracer Pasela

Good feel, classic look. I have 1&1/8 on my commuter bike. They roll nice and I haven't had a flat yet

I tried Continental Gator Skins after getting many flats riding in the rain on my Conti Ultra Sports. They give a great smooth ride inflated at 80psi. No flats yet, and not much wear or cuts on the tread. They were kinda expensive (I think $39 each on Nashbar), but I liked them so much I got a pair for my 700c commuter too.

Another vote for Ultra Gator Skins. I switched from Panracer Pasela TG and like the GatorSkins much more, althoug price is nearly 2X.

I recently tried a Conti Ultra Sport in 1 x 1 1/8, and I am not happy with it. It seems to soft and sticky, rolls really slow, and the one I have has a hop in it.

I hope to try the Pasela soon, and I am curious about the Vittoria Zaffiro. I like the looks of the tread on the Zaffiro.
