Man Hole Wed Ride

Today was an easy day and chance to shoot some of the beautiful man hole covers of Japan. We stare down at the road enough, it is nice to have a little diversity in the covers. The first bunch are all fire hose hookup accress covers, I love the little water drop guy:

Pretty cool. I like the colors, and I especially like the last one with the ship on it.

If they used manhole covers like that in most US cities, they would get stolen.

Pretty neat. Looks like they kept up with fancy work even for everyday stuff long after the US went "utility".

Heh heh, I must admit that when I was much younger, a friend and myself were visiting Ireland where they too have ornate manhole covers. We spent a little time thinking before deciding it just wouldn't be feasible to "acquire" one as a souvenier.

Fun to see all the work they must have put into designing them. Sure different from the China reports that have said they all get stolen so you really have to keep alert and not dive into one.

Those are so cool! As a cyclist I live in fear of man hole covers, and avoid them at all costs (or go as strait as I can over them), but this is a nice twist on the designs. What a great idea................MTT

Those colourful ones look like they have a keyhole or two. Are they locked perhaps? Or is it a keyhole used for lifting the cover?
