Anyone ride one ? anyone have any feedback ? I'm contemplating this , along with a Ridley Damocles for 2011. They seem to be about the price range in my neck of the woods.
My only issue with the Izalco is the housing run along the chain stay. I hate to see that much housing, for both performance and aesthetic reasons. And they are not light. Even with a decent build kit on them, they are still tanks. The Ridley is a damn nice frame, and strong as well. You would not go wrong with either bike, but I would take the Ridley given the choice.
Not sure if you can get hold of a copy of Ride magazine (Aussie mag).
They just did a review of the Pro 1.0 recently and seemed very please with it.
The reviewer basically summed up with "Sure I would change parts if it was mine but what sits beneath you, the key element to the whole package, is brilliant."
Ride used to have their reviews online somewhere. I will see if I can find it for you.
Pro 1.0 frame was listed by Ride (who dismantle and weigh everything themselves) at 1,243g.
A few thought on Focus.
I think I read they were a small German company that's been around for a while which was bought out by a big company. I'm sure a google search would tell the story. I'm curious to wich company because Performance started selling Focus. About the same time Performance came out with a new carbon CFR wich looks strikingly close to the Izalco. Check out the seat tube at the front der. Cowinkydink? Maybe. Or not.
My LBS just started selling them. He sells everything from Specialized to Colnago and Pinarello. He said he is very impressed whith the ride of them. He likes the Cayo.
Also strangly enough, Team Milram rides the Izalco but Team Jelly Belly is supplied with Cayos. What that says I have know idea.
Also, Jenson was selling Cayos with 105 for $1500 I think. I almost jumped on one.
i'd look at the geometry and fit of the ridley very closely. I remember the large being very large.
the Focus rear derailleur cable is a deal breaker for me. do a search of Ridley. In 07/08, they were all over rbr, and got excellent reviews.
I'm curious to know if you wound up with the Izalco. I saw that it received an editors choice in Bicycling. I'm in the market for a new ride, and a local dealer was trying to sell me on the merits of the bike. Still, it would be nice to hear about some first hand experience from anyone in the forums.
An Izalco is called a "tank" compared to a Damocles, but from what I've seen the Izalco is listed at 1050g and the Damocles 1220g for a size ~56. Heard many good things about the Damocles, besides a somewhat unforgiving fork and some QC problems from years ago. The Izalco looks good to me, but I haven't heard much about them.
