Just bought some new tubular tires. Wondering if anyone is using Stan's or latex as a tire sealant? It's been 20 years since I last rode tubular tires and I am sure they have come a long way. My LBS showed me a tire with Stan's in it and they poked a spoke through it and it sealed right up. Seems like that would totally prevent any chance of a flat during a race.
I'm running stans with continental gatorskin sprinters and I've trained with them for maybe 1k miles now with no issues. I guess if it lasts the life of the tire without flats, it's done its job
I have heard stan's will eventually dry in tubies and have little rolling balls of goop in your tires bleh! I tried stans post flat and it didn't seal my tube, not sure how it would have performed if I had it in before a puncture.
I used to use Stans. On my new tires I've switched over to caffe latex at the suggestion of people here and my lbs. Both work but the caffee does seem to work better. According to the guys at the lbs the latex will have a better chance of sealing a sidewall tear than stans since it is a foam.
