I have a late 80s sakae 52/42 and I'd like to drop it down to a 40 or 39 on the small ring. Is that possible and where can I find one that's reasonably priced? I know I can get a decent square taper crank on ebay for $50 but this one is white and it looks cool on my bike. Like to keep it but the 42 is killer at times. Keep trolling ebay?
I believe it's a 130, 5 bolt. Nearest measurement I can get between bolts is between 75-76 so it has to be a 130 right? Can I just pick up any old 130 and it will work, or is it riddled with complexity like everything else that seems like it would be simple? :mad2:
Sheldon Brown's cribsheet says 76.4mm btw bolt holes is 130. That's probably what it is. Lots of rings floating around in that size.
The 9/10 speed rings will work fine. There's lots 130 rings here for example. I've used the salsa ones with older cranks with great results.
