I haven't heard much on the Roval Classique Fusee wheelset with GP4000-S. To date, no issues in 350 miles. Is it worth upgrading the Rovals with a different more efficient wheelset? If there was one thing what would you change on the Roubaix?
It is such a new wheel, there arent many reviews on it yet. I had a rear hub go bad at 200 miles and Specialized sent me a new rear wheel under warrany. 700 miles later no problems at all. These wheels are actually pretty darn light. An actual upgrade to these wheels will probably run you at least $1k. The only grip i have with mine is it should be full Dura-ace versus the ultegra mix. Other than that i love it!
I have been riding my Roubaix 2007 for about 10 months now and have done about 6000 km. I am not that satisfied with the Roval Fusee Wheelset that came with the bike. I have had to return two rear wheels to Specialized with cracks in the rim. Each rim lasted about 3000 km. In my opinion these wheels are not that strong laterally. I have heard that these wheels have been improved for 2008 however I wasn't prepared to try these wheels again and have since upgraded to some custom built wheels. F.Y.I I weigh about 83 kg. The roads around here are rough. Both wheels that cracked were "True" and hadn't been abused in any way.
For 2007 they used rims made by Alex and rims made by Reynolds. The Reynolds rims were great but expensive, the Alex rims were inconsistant. I was told they make their own rims for 2008. I've had my Fusee's for about 2,000 miles and haven't even retensioned them yet. I think they are superb.
Thanks for the input. Given their reasonably light weight I'll keep them for now.
Does anyone have the actual weight? I had read somewhere about 1460g?
