Found a major issue with my VXRS this weekend......
I'm the second owner of a VXRS Worldstar...07/08 version. My BB started to creak after a few months and I took it to my LBS this weekend to re-grease the Campy cups and check it out. They called me with horrific news: on the inside bottom of the BB shell, the aluminum had corroded so badly that there is now a 1/2 inch square hole in the BB shell, with nothing underneath but the carbon BB layup. The cups still hold in the BB but it's obviously flexing, as every time I tighten them they're quiet until I start climbing or really mashing and then they creak like crazy again.
There's no weep hole in the BB, so my guess is the prior owner either sweat a lot or rode it in the wet and never thought about water in the BB. Either way, with my limited knowledge of BB shell fixes, I am not optimistic this one can be saved, which is a huge bummer as it's a gorgeous and well maintained frame with lots of life left! (not to mention I'm out the $$ I paid for it)
I know there's nothing that Time is likely to do for me as I'm not the original owner. Has anyone else experience this issue or found a way to fix it? Can the BB shell be repaired?
