    1988 (?) Trek 1200 wheel set

    Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and have a question about my 1988 (I think, anyway-- could be a 1989) Trek 1200 road bike. I took the front and rear axles apart to redo the cones and bearings, and found that a couple of local bike shops don't carry the right size cones. The original cones are pitted and grooved, which means it sounds like I'm grinding coffee during a ride. The wheel set is the original Matrix anodized aluminum 700c. Any advice?

    'brifter' is a lame word.

seems kind of a no brainer. either
    1) have the local shop order the correct parts...or
    2) buy new wheels. they're 25 years old, they've lived a good life.

i can't imagine it would be that hard to find some cones that would work. there are only really 2 size balls normally used in cup-and-cone front wheels, as long as you have the correct size balls i'm sure shimano make a cone that will do the job nicely.
I work for some bike racers
I've got some bikes, some guns,
    and a bunch of skateboards
