    650-20c/650-23c

My wife has a several year old Fuji triathlon bike. The rear tire is shot, so I want to replace both of them. The size is 650-20c, and these apparently are hard to come by these days. The LBS says we can go with 650-23c without any problems. Is this true?

Absolutely and she'll probably like the 23 better. Those 20's when pumped to pressures that will prevent pinch-flats, give a very harsh ride. The 23 will be much more plush. Lots of us have gone from 23 to 25mm tires for the same reason. I wouldn't go back to 23mm tires if they were free. And the scientists tell us that a wider tire at the same pressure is faster than a narrow tire.

Thanks. Now that you mention it, her new road bike has 25 mm tires and she likes them quite a bit. I'm still riding on 23's. Maybe I should go with 25.

And I'll bet you'd like them too.
