Looking for an aero and light (under 1650g) clincher wheelset. I've thought about American Classic 420's, and Ritchey WCS Protocols but lean towards the AC 420s because they are more aero (34mm).
Some have suggested that I look into custom wheels.
Can anyone suggest a custom build that is less than $500 with 30mm+ rim and under 1600g.
I'm located in Europe so availability / shipping should be taken into consideration.
well i'm going w/ the defacto answer around here...
Nio30s, WI hubs, Cx-ray spokes.... Its about as aero as you are gunna get for easily available parts... Nios are even avail here in Oz, so i'm sure a few stores/builders in europe get them...
These should build up into 14XXg wheels... thats pretty good.... If you can't easily get the rims, consider DTs new 30mm rim the 520, which is what its s'posed to weigh... dunno when it will be avail tho?? If you run shimano, stick to their hubs, pretty good price/availability/spoke counts.
Some of custom builders on these boards will ship, but i dunno what issues u may face w/ duties and tarriffs in europe etc...
soul 4.0, its a 40mm rim and weighs in around 1680 so a little heavier than you'd like but deeper rim too. $375 shipped to the US so i am not sure how your euros will translate but a good price never the less.
ever seen any photos of those souls... look to be pretty good for the money... but no pic is up on the site and it says the availability is not until May.
