    Blackset Race Cross Wheels-Tire size?

I picked up a set of the Blackset Race cyclocross wheels from Bicycle Wheel Warehouse earlier this year. Have been running them with 32c Kenda Small Block 8s and have been very pleased so far. I'm doing a race in October, the Grampian Challenge in Michigan. The course is mostly gravel/dirt roads with short sections of single/double track thrown in and some loose downhill sections. I'd like to run something a little wider (thinking Kenda Happy Mediums, 700X40c). BWW recomends a max tire width of 32c. Anyone tried anything wider? I've exceeded Mavic recomendations regularly with no issues, but thought I'd look for some opinions before moving forward. Thanks!

40s might be a bit of overkill.

I would say some 34 file treads.
