Hey CX(or any other)wrench - thoughts on stretching tubbies on a clincher rim...

... I have a Ksyrium SSC SL clincher rim and there are no sharp edges and I thought maybe I could stretch a tubbie on it for a couple of days. Thoughts??

I do that all the time, works great. I have 2 defective Edge clincher rims at the shop w/ a layer of duct tape on them specifically for that job. I only put the tape on them because i'll restretch tires w/ glue on them and it seem to keep them from sticking as much.

Cool. I anticipated that answer and stretched a couple on in the meantime. On a related note, are Conti Competitions particularly difficult to mount, or are my girlie cyclist forearms just not up to the task? Not looking forward to when they have glue on them.

They're tight like a tiger...and only get worse w/ glue. Not to bum you out too much, but Conti are the tightest tires i've mounted. Just be prepared for a long battle, you'll get them on eventually.

Honestly the worst part was removing the old tires. Every now and then I wondered about me glue job on the previous tires (my first ever tubular glue job) - usually while descending a mountain or diving into the 90 degree 50kph corner in the local weekly crit - but I had nothing to fear. Those things were a bi@%$tch to get off - had to resort to a plastic tire lever to get them started. By comparison, gluing the new ones on was easy.
