So it's already getting lighter later and colder in the mornings (where has this summer gone!!). Iv dusted off the trainer, looking for a old bike to use on the trainer, but I have no idea what tire to use on the rear wheel. What do you all think is a good tire to use that has some wear resistance to the turbo trainer. I don't care about weight as long as it will last some time on the trainer.
I've been using a Conti hometrainer tire for almost three years. I have an old Cdale frame set up with a drivetrain that stays clamped in a trainer year round. I used to use old tires but found the trainer tires work better and essentially don't wear out. I use a 25-28 tube inside so it dissapates heat better and maintains pressure for a longer time.
I picked up a Tacx trainer tire last winter after burning through 2 old tires and listening to the noise from them. The tacx tire is a pita to mount but it's very very grippy, smooth, and silent. Works well for winter training.
I too just use a worn old tire. If the cords are not showing, the tire is good to go. I do this for both rollers and the trainer.
