tubeless rim tape (stans vs giant)

    Hi,

    Can anyone please advise.

When I saw the Stans tubeless tape install instruction, for road wheel, they recommend to use two layers. But for giant tubeless tape install video, one layer is sufficient.

Is this because of quality or type of tubeless rim tape ?

    neither... Silca

as for 1 layer vs 2.. high pressure use 2.. you can probably get away with 1 but the reco 2 because of higher road pressures.
PO is a liberal echo chamber.

2 layers would be enough for higher pressure even you get wider tape to cover the entire rim bed. The mainly high pressure leaking risk comes from spoke holes on bed.

Go with the Giant...one lap is necessary due to the adhesive used. Giant developed it in partnership with 3M specifically to address the issue of heat generated under braking. The tape itself was also designed specifically for high pressure, rim brake application.

Why not use a product which was actually designed for the purpose instead of guessing about how many layers are needed?

    Hi,

How often does one need to replaces the rim tape ? I have almost never replace my rim tape in my previous ride. I am looking at replacing the current ones, because it was done badly from factory.

I've tried many tapes and settled on using two layers of green powder coat masking tape.

A bit stretchier and thinner than Stan's (which is really just Tesa 4289.)
