2011 Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR VS. 2011 Zipp 404 Carbon Clincher (Firecrest)

I am getting a new wheelset and have narrowed it down to two choices.

    2011 Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR
    or
    2011 Zipp 404 Carbon Clincher

The Mavics come with tires but are not available until February or March of 2011.

    The Zipps are available now.

The price difference is realitivley close so that is of no consideration. Which wheelset is the better choice and why?
    Thanks for any help

Hmm.. I've narrowed my selection to the exact same Mavic & ZIPP wheelsets, but I'm seriously considering a set of professionally custom built ENVE 65's, w/Achlemy Hubs, Sapim CX-ray spokes.

ENVE build time is 8 weeks, price is no consideration.

    2011 Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR
    or
    2011 Zipp 404 Carbon Clincher
    or
ENVE 65's (Achlemy hubs, sapim CX-ray)

    Thanks for any help also...

Personally I'd prefer the SLR's, but that depends on what you want. The zipps are likely faster and the new rim rides pretty smooth, at least the tubular does, they are better than my 2009 404's in that regard. They still are not very stiff wheels, but that's never been zipps strong suit. They are decent enough laterally, but when sprinting or climbing can feel mushy. SLR's on the other hand are pretty damn stiff, but not as comfortable, though they also brake better. The new 404's brake better than before and do not pulse as badly, but they still are not as good as Easton's thermatec, or the new Reynolds brake track, and are still inferior to aluminum.

Don't forget to consider the Shimano DA 50mm clinchers. These would be my choice over the Zipps and Mavics.

I'm biased towards the ENVE/Alchemy build. Between the Mavic and Zipp wheelsets, I would choose Zipp.

I can't comment on either of those wheels personaly. But, the manager at one of my local shops says Mavic has terrible customer service. The owner of the other local shop just told me he has at least one warranty claim per month on Zipps and is not a fan. He said the Reynolds are way better and has not had the issues of Zipps, less money to.
Hed makes some nice wheels too.
Not trying to poop on yer parade, just thought I'd share that.
Hope your experience would be different.

Get the Enve Composite Wheels. The Zipp wheels hoops are really great but the stock hubs are horrible.
