I'm in the market for some Zipp 303 Clincher wheels as an everyday training wheel. In season, I do alot of climbing and descents as steep as 17-20% and must have an alumnum brake surface. I'm looking to buy used and I don't care if it is dimpled or non-dimpled, I won't feel the difference.
What years should be avoided? What are some average used prices, maximum amounts or smoking deals for the following years:
2003 and below?
2004 - 2005 - Non Dimpled
2006 - 2007 - Dimpled from this year on?
2008 - New decals
2009 - New hubs?
2010 - ?
Zipp 303 general questions:
When did the 303 clincher go dimpled? Was it mid-2006? Zipp ads state that older non-dimpled wheels were 40mm but some people say its 38mm; are these the same rim?
I curently ride 06 Rolf Prima Elans and they have been awesome but I find in a fast pace line I have to work a little extra. I also have a set of '10 Reynold Assaults that I rarely use but they look nice on the bike and I have used them for flat group rides. However, the group I ride with loves hills and mountains. What goes up might melt coming down.
