    08 Tarmac to 14 Super6 Evo or a 14 TCR Advanced - noticeable upgrade?

I'm currently riding '08 Tarmac Comp with the original Ultegra 6600 group and upgraded 1600 g wheels. The bike is fine, everything works, I'm used to the fit. However, its hard not to be seduced by all the latest and greatest bikes out there, and so I began looking at something newer. A couple of options that look nice and would be within budget are 2014 Super6 Evo or a 2014 TCR Advanced. Both have new 6800, but seem to have more entry - level wheels (1800 - 1900 g). The fit seems to be OK with both, but really hard to tell just by sitting on the bikes or a quick ride around the block. Unfortuntely, I can't test these new bikes in the hills or see if I'm any faster or more comfortable on extended rides. There is just no way I can objectively test these in real world conditions.

I'm 6'1", 200 - 205 lbs, mainly ride once a week, 60-70 mile club rides with decent hills (santa monica mountains) and some fast pace sections. I dont think I need a real "endurance" frame like a Defy, but would still like a reasonably comfortable frame.

An alternative to a new bike would be to get a new group (athena, rival or 6800) and some new wheels and spend about $1000 total.

    What do you guys think?

Since you can't ride the new frame beforehand, I'd forego buying one. Yours is fine, and it's comfortable.

I'd buy a 6800 group for around $750 (do a web search...check Texascyclesport.com), and some November Alloy Nimbus Ti wheels built with Pacenti SL23v2 rims for $595.

A little over your $1000 budget, but good upgrades, IMO.

Thanks, this makes sense and seems like the most rational thing to do. Any idea if the current 10 speed crank would work well with the 11 speed shimano / sram chains?

I've done something similar with my 06 Madone just this week. It had the original Ultegra 6600 group so I ordered the 6800 ultegra group from probikekit for ~600 and upgraded all of the components. The 6600 groupset had around 14,000 miles and it's amazing how much better it shifts with the new groupset. I thought about getting a new bike as well but to me, it just didnt seem worth it considering that the fit on my Madone is dialed in.

I would suspect that the 10 speed crank would work with the 11 speed chain but for ~600, I upgrade the entire groupset including the crank.

I don't know the answer about the 10 speed crank with the 11 speed chain (derailleur and shifters), but for the price, the entire 6800 groupset, which is designed to work together, is a no-brainer (and you'll spend almost as much buying the individual parts piecemeal).
