    Which bike to buy?

I'm looking for a new road bike to buy. I've been riding the same 80s bianchi for the last 6 years and i feel like its time to move to something a little newer. I'm looking to spend between $1000-1300 and i've narrowed it down to a list of a few bikes, and i'm hoping some people can provide some outside opinions or recommend another bike i havn't yet considered. Looking for a full ultegra (or equivelent) build. I'm not sure i'm sold either on the bonded carbon stays idea, i dont know if it will hold up to 5-10 years of use as would a full carbon, full alu, or full steel bike would. Weight is important, but im no gram counter. Im looking for a 56cm and i weigh about 160lbs.

    Thanks,

    -Brent

    1) Raleigh Professional from GVHbikes.com - has a good build, nicely shaped steel, but a little heavier, priced nice at $1100

    2) Cinelli Proxima from GVHbikes.com - lightweight alu, good looking frame, but a little on the higher end of my range at $1300, same build as the raleigh.

    3) Leaderbikeusa.com - they have two road bikes 715r for $950, and the newer 735r for $1100. Bikes are probably tiawan made, probably good quality and they say the 735r is under 17lbs, pretty impressive, not bad for a $1100 bike, but i have heard bad talk about the Bontrager select wheelset.

    735R - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...961991&tc=photo

    4) Supergo Scattante 2003 CFR - $1249 hella good deal on a full carbon, not a fan of the shimano r540s. not sure about the off-brand fork either. Also could longevity of frame be an issue?

    5) Tirreno Razzo 1000 - $1040 from Performancebike.com Nice spec, again R540 wheelset. Looks like a nice frame, not sure of the long term prospects of the carbon seatstays? (originally $1300, but there is a 20% off coupon floating around on the net) Again not sure of the fork.

    6) Widsor Falkirk - Bikesdirect.com $1000- looks like a nice tiawan frame, ok build (rithey pro vs. ultegra issue) and is a triple, call me a purist, but i'd prefer a double, then again its only $1000

    7) Motobecane Legacy Pro - Bikesdirect.com $1100 - 853 is some nice stuff, but also probably a little heavier. If i were going with steel i think i may take the raleigh before this one.

I am in the same situation. Your list was very helpful. Just wondering what you decided to do. I was leaning toward the Scattante because of the carbon frame, but seems they are out of stock at Supergo. Seems they will be getting in a 2004 model in a few weeks which will be sold at the old non-sale price. The 2004 model is virtually identical except for the wheelset which will be Weyless Korso (their own brand) rather than the Shimano R540s. I haven't read particularly good things about either wheelset.

    2002 fuji team is 18#? or 2004 Felt F-60

hey, i'm in the same situation, and am considering many of the same bikes...but i'm holding out for a double..

    does the directbikes's $1295 2002 fuji team really only weigh 18# (in a 56) ?

    also, check out: http://www.feltracing.com/2004_bikes/f60.html
Felt Racing F-60: ...$1,199 F-60 has a butted aluminum frame with carbon fiber seat stays. Felt carbon fork, Ultegra/105 groupo with FSA triple crankset, and a lightweight Formula XR-3 wheelset....

I went with the Cinelli. I think that when you consider the frame only is selling for ~$700, your getting a full ultegra grouppo and buildkit for $600, pretty good deal. Also it seems to me that its one of the bikes without any "off-brand" components like the supergo.

Congrats on the new Cinelli! I just got a new ride myself, but I took a slightly different route. I got the Basso frame on sale at Performance, and a Veloce build kit from Reparto Corse. Now it cost 1390 with shipping, which is a bit pricy. However the advantages are a killer handmade Italian frame, handbuilt wheels and it's sized for me- including 46cm bars- nearly impossible to find on a showroom bike.
Good luck with the new ride. It's really hard to beat a nice Italian frame with quality components. And remember: it's not what you ride, it's how you ride that matters!
