newer chains do not last as long. riding style will 5have an impact. i climb and switch gears a lot. for me about 2500 miles and i replace the chain. i haven't lasted 5,000 miles on a chain since riding ultegra 6500

Agree getting only 5k on a chainring seems odd (unless crashed or damaged). I've only replaced one chainring in the last 10 years, and that was at 20,000+ documented miles on an old 9 sp Gossamer crank that spent most of its life on my 'beater' road bike (bad weather, little maintenance). Teeth visibly worn & became impossible to get decent shifting with it. New SRAM big ring fixed its shifting issues immediately. I have 14-15k miles on 2 other cranksets (different bikes) which are still working fine with little visible wear.

Only 2500 miles? Do you ride in rain and wet roads a lot? Do you lube your chain regularly - every 500 miles or after riding in rain or wet roads, whichever comes first?
