Hello all, what tips can you add regarding how these 3 bikes compare.
About me: I have been riding for 2 years. I mainly ride for fitness purposes, but appreciate performance. I currently have a 2014 specialized roubaix expert that I ride with ultegra 6800. I also have extensively ridden my brothers cannondale CAAD10 and Felt Z85. Most of my riding is on flats where I currently live, although I may move someday out of michigan so I can't say that I'll never see hilly roads. I'm in my 30s, 140 lbs, 6 ft.
Lately I've been having thoughts about selling my roubaix which I purchased at the beginning of this summer, and upgrading to more of a performance bike. I want something more responsive and more fun. I do love my roubaix, but it's not as light and nimble as I would like it to be. It weighs about 18lbs. I like how light bikes feel, so I definitely would appreciate something under 15 lbs total with cages and pedals. I am considering 3 bikes. My budget is under 8k.
-Trek Emonda SLR8 (dura ace)
-Specialized S Works Tarmac (can be either dura ace or red, I'd likely go with red for weight savings)
-Cannondale Supersix EVO Hi-Mod (seems like the 2015 only has dura ace, the red version is the team one and that's out of my price range)
I have read enough threads on this forum to know that most people will say "ride them all and decide which fits you best". I realize feel and fit are the most important thing when picking between these bikes. I have been calling all bike shops within a 200 miles mile radius and the dealers don't have any of these on the floor! I live in southeast michigan. Most dealers won't order such expensive bikes just for you to "try" and then decide you wanted something else. So I do NOT have the luxury of trying all of these. In fact, I couldn't find any emonda models at all since that's relatively new, I didn't find any supersixes in my size either. I did find tarmacs but not the new S works tarmac.
I will be selling my roubaix and putting that money towards the bike. Here is some info and my thoughts so far.
-The tarmac S works is about 1 lb heavier than the emonda and SS evo at the very least, which is a negative to me
-The SS evo hi mod does NOT have internal cable routing, which is a negative to me
-The trek looks the worst to me, the S works tarmac looks the best to me aesthetically speaking, The SS evo is in between the two
-All of these will be priced between 7-8000 MSRP and have comparable group sets. The trek has a lot of bontrager parts since that's their in house brand.
-The trek slr8 emonda is the lightest, but not as stiff as the tarmac or SS EVO
-the tarmac is supposedly the stiffest out of the 3
-I have a great specialized and trek dealer within 15 miles of me. Cannondale dealers are over an hour away, and don't do any sort of fitting with a bike sale...but I can get that done somewhere else
-Undecided between SRAM RED 22 and dura ace, i've used shimano ultegra 6800, 105 and SRAM Apex so far
I am looking for insights and additional facts from folks who have been fortunate enough to see these in person or ride these. Although any info on how they bikes compare would be great. Again I am not a racer, just a super enthusiast who likes having the best possible. I am willing to spend a lot of money because I see this as an investment in my health, it's something I enjoy and something that benefits me. So why not get something that will make me look forward to riding daily even more so than my current roubaix (which I absolutely love, but an upgrade I'm sure I'll love even more!)
