    Std sliding dropout & hooded sliding dropout

    I know what a dropout is on a bike. To me a dropout is a dropout. Some have a threaded hole in it to mount a bike rack over the rear wheel of course but

    what is a standard sliding dropout and a hooded sliding dropout? What do they look like, how do they differ from a regular or normal dropout and when and why are they used?

    Sliding dropouts are a method of tensioning a chain on a single speed bike. They get used more on MTBs than on road bikes. The hood is sort of like a Breezer style dropout where it's a bit recessed. Here is a picture of hooded Paragon Machine Works sliding dropout on a Moots...
