    What is this?

My Trek 5500 oclv USPS 1999 has this tab on the bottom of the top tube near the cable guide for the rear brake. It has a small hole in it. I'm guessing it might be for a pump and the tab looks to be original. Why would Trek put a pump attachment on a (Lance) bike? As usual i can't load a picture so those of you who have seen this before or own a similar bike with that piece protruding can chime in....Please & Thank's!

I'd find a place to hang it on the wall.

It is actually pretty rare, they never get mounted on bikes that are normal retail. What's the serial #? Is it a standard Trek WTUXXXXXXXX?
