What frame is taller, yet has shorter top tube?

I was put on a "size cycle" and the measurement of my perfect frame would be 57cm down tube and 55cm top tube (both c-c).

I cannot afford custom. Is there a maker that typically makes a taller/shorter frame? Should I just split the difference and find a 56x56 and change out the stem?

Research what you can. My Basso has a top tube just slightly shorter than the seat tube, while my buddy's Masi is longer in the top tube. Just look at the geometry of the frames you're interested in, and make up the difference with the stem.
