    Beer can shim...

Steel frame bike that takes a 26.8mm seat post. I have a 26.4mm post. Does this sound like a job for a beer can shim, or do I need to source a 26.8mm post?

Given his penchant for nicknames, and his aversion to reading, I've decided to shorten Donald J. Trump to it's essence: Dump*

It's a good excuse to drink a can of beer (if you need and excuse) and, it should solve your problem.

Make several 1/2cm long cuts in the top of the shim so you can fold them over the top of the seat tube. This will keep your shim from slipping down into the frame with the seatpost.

I didn't have any beer cans handy so I measured a 7-Up can instead. The caliper reading was 0.12mm.

You need to source a 26.8 post, not a 26.4 post.

    Don't cheap out on this.

Heck yeah! And that turned out okay (it is for the purple Trek). Having a tough time finding a black, zero-setback, alloy post that is 26.8 and still in stock. And, before anyone asks, I will not be spending $100 for a Thompson... Any post that expensive needs to come with a ďhappy endingĒ.

Iím thinking about petitioning for a new forum: ďCheap BastardsĒ. Nothing but hacks, DIYs, and how to do things on the cheap.

A beer can shim would work, but as seatposts are so cheap, why cheap out?
Donald Trump has never had a wife he didn't cheat on.

More Americans wanted Hillary Clinton to be President than wanted Donald Trump.

There are over 8 million covid cases in the United States (as of October 15th), nine months after Donald Trump said it was "totally under control," and that "it's gonna be just fine."

In for a penny - in for a pound, I suppose.

Add to that the fact that, as a Clyde, I'll be expecting on every ride for the post to suddenly slip down at the most inopportune moment... and I guess I should get the right tool for the job.

Back to the interwebs to try and find a 26.8 that fits the bill...

Plenty of allow 27.2mm seatposts out there. Just buy one, put it on a lathe, and turn down .0076"...........

I looked at Quality online and I didn't see a single seatpost available, regardless of diameter or color. No 26.8 shims either.

Perhaps you could consult some of the experts in this thread. There's a lot of seatpost knowledge here.

Thanks for looking, ogre! Iím glad to know it wasnít just me.

I found a Kalloy post. 26.8, black. It does have a 20mm offset but I can work with that, I think.

I'm more a fan of Coke cans myself. More in the history of the Tour de France, don't you know. That said, I have no problem shimming press fit stuff (like old square taper crank arms) but a seat post? No thanks. Could be a route to frame damage in my estimation.
