    Question bottom bracket washers

    Hi,

My bike has 2 ~ 1 mm thick washers installed between the drive side bottom bracket cup and the frame's bottom bracket shell.
It is like that originally and the drivetrain works fine.
Has anyone the same kind of assembly ?
    I'm interested to know :
    a. what's the reason for not threading the drive side bottom bracket cup directly into the
    botton bracket shell ?
    b. could it cause any damage to the frame's bottom bracket shell ?

Your opinions & experince will be much appreciated.

    Thank's

    they're spacers.
Sometimes ther're needed for the purpose of getting a proper chainline.
If you have short chainstays a 1-2mm spacer can get rid of chain rub in the small/small ring combination. Not that you should be riding in that gear anyway.
