Couple FD questions from an idiot

I guess the 9 speed FD is a little narrower, but would an Ultegra triple front der. shift a Sora drivetrain without any problems?

Also if you went to a 28/38/48 crank on the road bike, would you stick with a road derailleur or a MTB derailleur up front?

My plan is to ask a lot of stupid questions for a while, then after I've learned everything, I will come back under a different name and answer newbie questions like an expert.

    Thanks so much.

Cage width matters a little more with triples, but usually is not a deal killer. The Ultegra works with that chainring setup. I used a 9 speed 105 triple front with a 46/36/26 in an otherwise 7 speed RSX STI setup using a sram 8 speed chain with no issues.

It shouldn't matter as long as it is a triple derailleur.

    Derailleur

If you have road shifters you'll need a road derailleur and lower it to where it clears the big ring by 1 or 2 mm.
