I'm using the Newton 31.8 with an Easton EC90 bar. The inside edges and corners of the Newton stem clamp are fairly sharp, and there is some noticeable damage to the surface finish of my bar (varnish?). This may have been from not loosening the stem enough when trying to adjust the bar rotation. I don't think the epoxy or carbon has been compromised. If you look at the new Easton stems, the insided edges are nicely rounded, which should help prevent this damage.
