installing new cable without changing casing (Campy)

My front derailleur cable its badly frayed and I want to replace it. The casing is pretty new so I would like to just fish in a new cable without removing the lever. I have always replaced the cables and casings together. Given the cost of Campy cable sets I don't want to do that. Is there a way to fish the cable through the shifter without removing the levers and casings?

It's going to depend on where the fraying is. But assuming the fraying is at the derailleur, just clip off the frayed part to have a clean end. Pull the lever hood forward so you can see the button end of the cable in the shifter mechanism. I don't remember whether you can see it best when the shifter is in the lowest or highest position. Push the cable so the button comes out of the shifter and pull the cable out. You can then feed the new cable through that hole. Be careful not to shift the shifter or you might move things relative to the casing. You might have to wiggle things around to get the new cable to thread.

Yes. I suggest snip off the fraying end to minimize any snag. Just make sure that the new cable is Campy compatible.
