I did a metallic light blue / sliver rattle can job on an old Centurion frame, it looked like crap even with the proper prep. For a beater bike, sure go for it, but I'd go for a HVLP gun and proper paint if I were to do it again.

Update: After seeing how nice the base coat of purple looked with the bike partially built up, I decided to put a little more into it. I pulled it back apart again, gave it a few more light coats of purple, and splurged on some automotive clear coat. $7/can... sparing no expense.

    That's the ticket.

I wish I'd done that with my rattle can bike. After I got it put back together and rode it a few times, I saw minor areas for improvement. But I was too lazy to pull it apart and make it perfect.

Thanks. Four coats of clear enamel. Now we wait a week to cure and build things back up again.
