Removing 2 chain links off Shimano 11 speed chain

Just want to confirm the best way to shorten the chain is to break the chain, remove the links and reattach with a new pin. Not the same pin.

    'brifter' is a lame word.

You are correct, or you can use a quick link.

Chains donít really reliably pin together anymore (unless you have a shimano style pin).
This method of fixing chains went out with 10 speed, iirc.
Basically now you use quick links and a bit of spare chain.
Which is basically what cx said in far fewer words.

Can I use any 11 speed quick link or should I just use the Shimano one?

You can use pretty much any one you want. Unless you ask Shimano, who will obviously say you can only use theirs.

Or if you run Campy. They are early 21st century with chain connection.
