    Replacing shimano brake/shift hoods

I'm going to attempt to replace my shimano ultegra brake lever hoods. After looking at my current setup, it looks like I'll need to disconnect the shift cables from the lever and remove the entire lever from the handle bar.

I have never disconnected the cables before. Any advice on this procedure would be appreciated.

You will have to disconnect the shift cables but you won't have to remove the lever from the bar. Stick your new hoods in a pan of warm water for a while to flexy them up before trying to stretch them over the lever.

Pour some rubbing alcohol on the new hoods to get them on too. It will make a great lube to get them on, then dry up and hold tight after a bit. Don't be afaid to use a bunch.
Cyclists really need to learn a little Rule #5.
