Shimano 105 axle in R550 pedal?

    Hey All,

My right pedal (R550\Tiagra) axle is toast. It doesn't look like Shimano offers a replacement axle assembly. Anyone know if an axle from a 105 pedal would fit?

    Thanks,

    Lew

Did some searching on ebay and the axle from a 5700 pedal looks just like the R550:

But maybe the specs are completely different.

I don't remember where, but somewhere is a Shimano website with part #s for components and subcomponents of Shimano items.
In the factory motor parts world, that's how we do it.
If part #s are same, it's a done deal.
That is, if Shimano does not just throw new #s around all the time.

From reading page 22 in this document https://si.shimano.com/pdfs/dm/DM-PD0002-07-ENG.pdf , the R550 axle is the same as the R540, 5700, and 5800, at least to a function match, which is what your question seemed to be asking for. HTH?

    I looked at these
    https://si.shimano.com/pdfs/ev/EV-PD-R550-3555.pdf
    https://si.shimano.com/pdfs/ev/EV-PD-5700-3026A.pdf
    https://si.shimano.com/pdfs/ev/EV-PD-5800-3652.pdf

    It has Y45F98020/30 for R550, Y45J98020/30 for 5700, and Y46W98010/20 for 5800.
    So try it and see.

The axle assemblies have different part #'s. The axles themselves might be the same but you'd never know unless you had them in your hand.

ETA: I'd check availability on the axle kit but I don't have my password for the Shimano B2B site at home.

Thanks for the help! I just got off the phone with Shimano Customer Support and they confirmed the same part number: Y45F98020. Just ordered one!

What does a single axle unit cost?

A new set on the international market with new cleats probably isn't all that much more.

$20 shipped. Mine are in great shape, so I really didn't want to buy a new pair. However, that is a great price.

Did you happen to notice they are out of stock?

It's not a great price if you can't get it for that price.
