Shimano FD Tiagra 4400 Replacement

My Shimano 4400 front derailleur appears to be broken. The spring has lost tension and from what I have read, the tab holding the spring broke off (I am reading this is common on Tiagra and Sora FDs). So I am now looking to replace it and I am quite confused what can work with my setup. Below are my component specs.

Crankset: FSA Aluminum Triple Crankset) 50/39/30T
Shifters: Tiagra 4400 Integrated STI 27 speed, Flight Deck compatible
FD: Tiagra 4400
RD: 105
Cassette: Shimano 9 speed cassette 12-25T (27 total gears)
Chain: KMC Z9000 Super Narrow
9 speed

I am trying to figure out what FD's are compatible with this older setup;

• Can I upgrade to 105 and is it worth it?
• I read that 105's are limited to double crankset setups and not triple. Is this true? I see some 105's (5500 and 5700 series) are showing to have a triple ring option.
• For a straight Tiagra replacement, will any of the newer series work as long as they are triple ring?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks

You will most likely find that your only option to replace that derailleur is the Microshift 539 triple. Your other option will be to scour ebay for a shimano replacement. I've had no success with the second option, and I stock the Microshift in my store as a replacement. I've done three of them this week.

Would only a Shimano Tiagra 4400 triple work or are there other Shimano options? Anything new...even Sora?

IF you can find those older Shimano derailleurs, 105 or whatever, it will work. However, as I said before, those things are nearly impossible to find. It must have a max chainring size of 53. I do this for a living, and the only reliable replacement is the Microshift.
The newer stuff has a max chainring size of 50. They absolutely will not work.

My max chain ring is 50, so why does it need a 53? Wouldn't it be misaligned then?

I did some more looking and the FD is a 4503. What are the options for that model? Would the 5703 work?

I believe it will. Most older 8-speed, 9-speed and some 10-speed Shimano road FD's should work. I did an eBay search and there are quite a few Soras for sale:

There are also a few Tiagras and a 105. I'm pretty sure the Tiagra 4503 will work, but not sure about the 4703 - that is a unique animal.

And be careful to note two things:

1) Clamp type or braze on.
2) Top pull or bottom pull.
