    SRAM Rival Friction Setup
    Hi all,

Am looking to build a frankenbike with some components I have lying around.

I want to use a Sram Rival 10 speed rear derailleur with an 8 speed Sram cassette and friction shifters. Will the shifters pull enough cable to let the derailleur shift through all the gears? I looked at cable pull ratios but am just confused.

    Thanks,
    Nick

No use looking at cable pull ratios. I'm sure it will work...Shimano friction shifters?

Campagnolo friction shifters. Syncro II 8 speed.

I'm sure they'll pull enough cable.

I also lack confidence in this stuff but as I understand it:

You want to move an SRAM rear which is a 1.3 ratio across an 8 speed cassette, which is 35.4mm. 35.4/1.3 = 27.23 cable pull required. Campy 8 is 3.5mm pull per click so minimum 7*3.5 = 24.5mm will be pulled by your shifter.

You're a bit short but if the shifter moves past at least one of the end clicks you'll probably ok. You could measure it - pull the shifter all the way in and mark the cable then let it all the way out and measure the amount of cable revealed, if it's 28mm or more you're good.

Uh, Syncro II is index shifting, not friction. That said, did they have a friction position? I don't remember.
