Alright so there was a thread on this forum that while it did provide the information didn't really give me a conclusive answer I apologize if this is the incorrect way to go about this but, From the thread, I concluded a tiagra 4700 road shifter could be used with a 5800/6800 rear derailleur for a rear 10 speed bike using a 10 speed cassette. I assume thats what was supposed to be gained from the thread. Which brings me to my new question are 5800/6800 rear derailleurs interchangeable with r8000 shifters? If so could i pair my 4703 shifters with an RD-R8000-GS rear derailleur in a 3x10 configuration to gain a clutch rear derailleur?

The shift ratios should be compatible. As long as they are, the derailleur doesn't care whether the shifter is 10 or 11 speed.

From my knowledge, Shimano changes their road shifter ratios from:

4600/5700/6700/7900

to

4700/5800/6800/9000.

After that, ratios stayed the same. So 5800/6800 should be compatible with R8000.

To be less confusing, I would say it this way -
Shimano changed their road rear derailleur ratios from:
4600/5700/6700/7900
to
4700/5800/6800/9000.
After that, rear derailleur ratios stayed the same. So the 4700/5800/6800 rear derailleur should be compatible with the R8000.

The 10 speed 4700 shifter is not compatible/replaceable with the 11 speed 5800/6800/R8000 shifter unless other components are also replaced (chain, rear cassette, etc)
