Wrong cassette size - will a new size chain also be required?

    Hey gang -

I just picked up my new bike yesterday - Problem is that it was shipped with an 11/23 cassette and I requested a 12/25. My LBS is trying to correct the problem but reading the thread below, it dawned on me - will I need to re-size/exchange the chain or the one that came with the bike do?

The setup is a DA 10 speed.

    Much thx's
    Wile

Nope. It will be fine. Double check the 53/25 combo so that it doesn't rip your derailleur off, and the small combo for slack, but it should all go fine.

    Not likely, and here's why

At any given time, only half of the teeth on a cog are engaged with the chain. Therefore, a 4 tooth difference equals one new link in the chain (two half links = one link, and two half links engage the 4/2 teeth). So your two tooth increase means only one half link additional is engaged. Unless the original chain length was right at the limit of shortness, you won't need any more. As suggested by others, it's always a good idea to be sure that the large/large combo won't damage things.
