"changing gear w/o changing the chain" chart?

I'm sure this is out there somewhere in the archives but I couldn't find it.

I'm running a 44x15 now, what other f/r combos have the same total chain length (+/- a tooth or two).

Is it just a simple matter of "subtract one tooth from the front, add one to the rear" and vice versa? So I could run a 43x16 or 42x17 or 46x13 with the same chain as the 44x15?

    thx

Are you trying to run a double double?

no, just building a kit for the track. would prefer not to mess with the chain while changing gears.

Your gear inch change will be huge. I don't think you want that for the track.
With trackends or horizontal dropouts you shouldn't have to mess with chain length.

Here's a good little program to mess with chain lengths, rings & cogs. Don't know the source. - TF

    Thanks TurboTurtle.

Geez I love forums. Ask a simple question, get a dozen answers, none of which answer the question.
