Took a racing class at the local velodrome..

last Saturday and had a really great time...and for very little money, only $14 total for parking, a 3 hr. class, and track bike rental. Started with a general orientation to track riding and a 40 lap warmup, then spent the rest of the session riding various types of races. Plan to attend two more classes so I can compete in the weeknight "practice" races. Anyway, would highly recommend trying a class (many velodromes offer them), lots of fun and a good relatively safe way to check out racing. FWIW my local track is in San Jose, CA and has a web site at http://www.stanford.edu/~roadman/Bike_Racing/NCVA/

I attended a class at the Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis this weekend. Mostly, it was a chance to try out a velodrome, and do something new. Never did a fixed gear before, or a banked track.

However, it was a blast! It was as close to flying on a bicycle I've ever experienced. It was basically an introduction to the velodrome, so it went into things like conventions for races, but also a lot of track time. I also got to motorpace, which I've never done formally.

I've now spent the last 48 hours trying to figure out how to convert one of my older rigs into a fixed-gear.
