    bruised foot
    about a week ago I bruised the bottom of my foot while doing a longer ride. I am not really sure what happened but now the foot is a little tender and once I get 20+ miles or so into a ride there is some pain. I have a century coming up this weekend and I worry it will become a problem. Any ideas on getting this to heal?

    Yep.

    And don't press down so hard on the pedals! Scroll through the bottom of the stroke; follow the crank around, press down solidly but without jamming. Your foot problems will magically disappear. Been there.

    Fred, when you are kicking out 400-500 watts non-stop, its hard not to press down hard:D

    Never heard of prednisone. The stuff its used for seemed a little scary (Crohns, cancer, blood disorders). I am going to go with R&R and massage and hope for the best

    Stop riding & walking, heat followed by ice. If it is strained ligaments, get some athletic tape and tape it up.

    Definitely an interface problem if the bottoms of the feet bruise on a hard ride. Shoe sole too hard? Bad arch support? Is it chronic? Have you considered orthotic inserts?

    Something's going on there that could be fixed. The pros ramp up to 800 watts in sprints at the end of 100 mile races and don't bruise the bottom of their feet.

    Prednisone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids and is for inflammation of most anything and was once considered a miracle drug, until it was discovered that long term use could cause undesired effects.

    short courses are wonderful for some of us.

    Yours is likely an overuse injury that is producing inflammation.

    if you prefer a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, ibuprofen is pretty good.

    Yes. I'm using the same Giro Factor shoes (with Superfeet insoles) I've had for a few years. This is not an ongoing issue; it just started last week

    ^^^^ This sounds about right when combined with looking at the arch support issue. There are probably a number of natural/home remedies out there as well.
